The agreement for using CriticalThinkers.
Plain-language terms for learners, parents, homeschoolers and schools.
Effective date: 5 June 2026 · Last updated: 5 June 2026
⚠ Draft — not yet in force
This is a working draft, published for transparency while paid features are being built. It has not yet been reviewed by a legal professional against South African law, and is not the final agreement. It does not yet apply to any purchase. We will replace it with a reviewed version before any paid plan goes on sale.
1. Who we are
This website, CriticalThinkers (https://criticalthinkers.co.za), is operated by CriticalThinkers (Pty) Ltd (registration pending), based in South Africa. You can reach us at hello@criticalthinkers.co.za. By using the platform you agree to these terms.
2. What we offer
CriticalThinkers teaches critical thinking to South African learners from Grade R to Grade 12. The core curriculum — all lessons, tests and the step-by-step learning path — is free to use, and always will be. We also offer optional paid Plus plans that add extra tools (such as detailed dashboards, printable workbooks, certificates and class reports). Paid plans never put a lesson behind a paywall.
3. Accounts & eligibility
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your password confidential. You’re responsible for activity under your account.
- Accounts for under-18s should be created and managed by a parent, guardian or a school. By creating a learner profile for a child, you confirm you’re allowed to do so.
- You may close your account at any time by contacting us.
4. Acceptable use
Use the platform for learning. Don’t try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to it, don’t scrape or resell the content, and don’t upload unlawful or harmful material. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.
5. Family Plus (optional subscription)
- Family Plus is an optional subscription for households, indicatively R39 per month or R349 per year for up to 4 learner profiles.
- Payments are processed securely by PayFast. We don’t see or store your card details.
- Unless cancelled, the subscription renews automatically for the same period. You can cancel anytime — see our Refund & Cancellation policy.
- The price you pay is always the one shown at checkout before you confirm. The core curriculum is free and is never charged for. We’ll give reasonable notice of any price change before it affects you.
6. School Licences
Schools and organisations can buy licences (indicatively R15 to R40 per learner per year) to enrol learners and use the teacher tools. School licences are typically arranged by invoice and confirmed in a separate agreement, including a data-processing agreement for learners’ personal information. Contact us at hello@criticalthinkers.co.za.
7. Cancellation & refunds
How to cancel, and when refunds apply, are set out in our Refund & Cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms. Your rights under South Africa’s Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act are not affected.
8. Our content
The lessons, designs and materials on CriticalThinkers belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for personal, family, homeschooling or classroom learning. You may not resell, redistribute or republish them without our permission.
9. Educational purpose & “as is”
CriticalThinkers is an educational tool to help build thinking skills; it isn’t a substitute for formal schooling, assessment or professional advice. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but the service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the platform. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by South African law.
10. Privacy
How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy notice.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform grows. We’ll post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date, and give notice of material changes where reasonable.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.
